Cabin #2

Named For: Rev. Chauncey M. Foreman
Born: 1879
Died: 1955
Mission Field: South Dakota

From the pastorate of the Baptist Church in Albion, Nebraska, the Rev. C. M. Foreman
came to Rapid City to become the Convention Pastor-at-Large in 1927. He worked with
many churches in western South Dakota, but was best known for his role in organizing
the First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche in 1928. He then served that church from its
day of organization until its building's dedication in 1929. He not only performed the
preaching and pastoral duties, but also worked with his hands and gave watchful
supervision to the church's work. More than any other single individual, the Rev. C. M.
Foreman deserves the credit for strongly establishing this church in the life of this city
during more than a year of its infancy.

He then moved to Sioux Falls and served in the dual capacity of Convention Pastor and
Evangelist until the middle 1930's, when the Convention staff was reduced to the Executive
Secretary and one part-time worker. He later was called to the First Baptist Church of
Madison where he served for 4 years (1935-1938). He served later as an interim pastor in
Sioux Falls, and led in the preliminary organization of South Sioux Falls Baptist Church.

He received the Inez Beebe Perisho Award from Sioux Falls College in 1954. This is awarded
to individuals for achievement and Christian service to community, denomination, or nation.
He was especially interested in promoting Camp Judson in its early years and lived long
enough to rejoice in its new and improved location. He passed away in 1955.
